We're at 1501.2 Pounds!

Well we made it to 1500 lbs.  WOW!  Thats a lot of food from our little urban lot.  And we did that without any of our fruit trees or berry bushes producing food.

Pushing us over 1500 lbs was 0.4 lbs of limes and 4.8 lbs of eggs.  The chickens definetly stepped it up this week.  Its almost as if they were making sure we crossed 1500 lbs.  They laid a whopping 38 eggs!

The Wednesday Weigh-In : Week #51

We're at 1496 Pounds!

It's hard to believe were at the second to last weigh in of 2010!  Our chickens have been laying really well and we have been enjoying eggnog, omlets, fritattas regularly thanks to them.  This week we came in at 4.9 lbs.  Of the total 4.1 lbs was from 33 eggs.  The remaining 0.8 pounds was harvesting more ripe limes!

The Wednesday Weigh-In : Week #50

We're at 1491.1 Pounds!

Wow, we had a really big snow storm this weekend.  Top five on recorded history!  Getting almost two feet in Saint Paul really has slowed life down a little.  That gave us a nice opportunity between all the shoveling to do some cooking and enjoy more of the summer bounty we put up this year.

Our chickens have fallen into their winter laying routine now, and with the three younger chickens producing, we have been averaging five eggs a day.  In total we had 35 eggs this week weighing in at 4.5 lbs.  We also started enjoying some ripe citrus from our lime, lemon, and limequat plants that are overwintering in our south facing windows.  With the 1.1 lbs of citrus we came in at 5.6 lbs this week!

The Wednesday Weigh-In : Week #49

We're at 1485.5 Pounds!

It was a quiet week here at the urban ton project.  Our chickens kept on laying, giving us 25 eggs.  They weighed in at 3.2 lbs, and that was the total production for the week.  Even with production really low right now we have been enjoying many meals from the garden with the surplus we put up for the winter.  We just finished off the tomatoes that were ripening in the basement and we are down to the last of our fresh kale and Brussels sprouts.  Soon we will be pulling frozen veggies from the freezer and canned veggies off the shelves in the basement!

The Wednesday Weigh-In : Week #48

We're at 1482.3 Pounds!

Well it's officially winter now and with it came a big reduction in food production for the week.  In total we produced 3.2 lbs of food with 2.9 lbs coming from the 23 eggs our 10 chickens laid.  The remaining .3 lbs was from a couple lemons we harvested from one of our citrus plants (they come inside for the winter) and some thyme from the garden.

It will be a race to see if we can get 1500 lbs by the end of the first year!
