As we mentioned yesterday, in the Sunday Supper, tomato season for us is in full swing. Over the weekend we harvested 10 lbs of tomatoes! With such a wonderful bounty the weekly pounds will surely start climbing quick!
We're not sure if we'll make it to the Urban Ton this year but one thing is for sure, we're really enjoying our daily harvests. The deep connection we have with our food and where it comes from has added significant meaning to our meals. The healthy and nutritious food we have been eating not only tastes amazing but leaves us feeling satisfied and energized.

Wow, what a bowl full of pretty tomatoes. I can see at the bottom of that bowl some really tiny ones! Cute.
Those really tiny ones are sweet pea currant tomatoes. They are super tasty and make a great addition whole to salads. The plants are pretty prolific but because they are so small it takes a little while to pick enough to have a sizable amount.
What a lovely selection of different tomatoes you've got there. I love the yellow pear-shaped one at the bottom - what variety is it???
Those yellow pear shaped ones are Beam's Yellow Pear. They are mildly sweet and pretty prolific. Definitely our favorite among the yellow pear variates. You can find them at Seed Savers Exchange.
Just like you warned me, the chickens have started eating my big tomatoes--they don't even wait for them to turn red!! :-o
Grrrrrrrr...

Oh NO! Are they in an area that can be easily roped off? I'm surprised they don't wait for them to ripen. Mine wont touch them until they ripen. They haven't gotten into them this year being in the raised bed but they have enjoyed the tomato scraps I've given them.
