So far most everything we have discussed and shown has been in the backyard. We are also working on chaining the front yard landscape from ornamentals to edibles. The most predominant feature will be two blackberry trellises.
The blackberry trellises are designed similarly to the raspberry trellises except they have wire supports on both sides. The blackberries will be trained to grow up between the wires, then will be wrapped around the top guide wire to fix their height. Each trellis is ten feet long and will support five blackberry plants.
Blackberries typically fruit on 2nd year wood, and since they die back to the ground every year during the cold Minnesota winters getting fruit from them has been a challenge here. There are two relatively new variates that produce fruit late in the season from 1st year wood. We're really looking forward to locally grown blackberries from our front yard!
